WHAT IS A CREDIT CARD?

A credit card is a credit facility loaded onto an electronic purse. Credit cards can be used to purchase items in a convenient manner. Credit cards can be used in place of cash or cheques wherever you see the MasterCard symbol, or to get cash from a withdrawal machine.

I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED, WHEN DO I GET MY CARD?

Your card will be ready within ten working days of your receipt of your acceptance letter. You will be contacted by a Customer Care officer when your card is ready for collection.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY PIN?

As soon as your card and PIN are ready for collection, you will be contacted by the Bank to go the branch where you submitted your application.

I HAVE BEEN DECLINED FOR A CREDIT CARD BEFORE - DOES THIS MEAN ECOBANK WILL DECLINE ME?

Not necessarily. Ecobank takes all the information you provide on your application form into consideration - and a decision is then made based on that information. In addition the bank also relies on information from our credit reference bureau.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE MY APPLICATION FORM?

It should take between 5 and 10 minutes.

WHAT SHOULD I PUT IN THE INCOME BOXES?

You should enter the amount of money you get from your salary every year before tax. If you are a housewife, self-employed or retired, please add up all the pension, benefits and income you would receive in one year and enter this as your income.

WHAT SHOULD I PUT IN THE 'OCCUPATION' BOX?

If you are employed, please enter your job title for example 'Banker' or 'Sales Executive'. If you are self-employed please indicate so and also state your line of business.

HOW DOES ECOBANK DECIDE WHICH PRODUCT IS RIGHT FOR ME?

You should always apply for the product which suits you best. However from the information provided, we may decide to offer you an alternative product.

WHAT IF I SUBMIT MORE THAN ONE APPLICATION?

Please do not submit more than one application - only the first application received will be considered as valid.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CREDIT CARD GETS LOST OR STOLEN?

Inform Ecobank MasterCard Center immediately by calling our Customer Care number 01-2701323 or 01- 2706970 this will enable us to temporarily block your account and arrange for a replacement. We also advise you to lodge a formal complaint to the police for your own protection. You must always maintain a record of the customer service phone number and the Ecobank MasterCard number in a safe place separate from where you keep your card. You must also make it a point to note down the time and date of reporting as well as the name of the customer service representative who noted down your report.

WHERE CAN I USE MY CARD?

Ecobank issues MasterCard credit cards. This means that you can use your credit card to make purchases at any of the 20 million outlets worldwide that accepts MasterCard. You can also use your card to make withdrawals from a cash machine. You can spend up to a pre-agreed amount called your credit limit.

IS IT SAFE TO SHOP OVER THE INTERNET?

Yes, it is safe to buy online, just remember to check for the padlock symbol to make sure the page is secure.
